A few details about tomorrow evening’s performance:

*NO AFTER-SCHOOL REHEARSAL TOMORROW AFTERNOON, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 19. Thank you for taking this time to prepare your singer for the evening’s performance (i.e. snack/dinner, mental down time, etc.) We appreciate you encouraging your singer to focus during the performance for the best possible experience.

* Call time for singers is 6:15pm in the Hickman High School Choir room. The choir room is located on the northeast corner of Hickman’s campus directly across the side from the Dairy Queen. The performance will begin at 7:00pm in the Hickman HS auditorium. Students should be dropped off in the choir room, and parents should find their seat in the auditorium during choral warm-up.

*Students should wear all uniform pieces for the performance. This includes solid black from waist to toe, a solid white top with a collar for the gold tie, and the burgundy cardigan they were given in October.

November 29 Update: A Message from Mr. Battle

November 29, 2017
Hello Parents,

One of the joys of being part of an ensemble is all the wonderful opportunities that are available to sing in such an artistic community. The show with the Boonslick Chordbusters is a great opportunity for the students to sing at the Missouri Theater and share their wonderful music again. It should be openly stated that the show is titled “Kickin’ It Back for Christmas”. The Chordbuster Chorus has invited the Honors Choir to be a guest on their show. If you have further questions about the nature of the show, please email Mr. Battle directly at RBattle@CPKS12.org

Concerning logistics, students should be shepherded to the side—stage door between new Shakespeare’s Pizza and the theater. Families simply need to watch their kid enter the door, then hurry to the lobby to get good seats! The backstage area is tiny, I would ask that we minimize the number of humans in this space. Every family will be given two comp tickets to get into the show for free. Any additional ticket can be purchased for $10 at the door. Children under 12 are free.

The show tends to be very light hearted in nature and full of fun. The HC will sing four songs as part of their set, then close the show at the end by singing Peace, Peace with the Chordbusters adding Silent Night on the tail end. Again, this is not a show produced by Columbia Public Schools and we are guests on the show.

Before the last tune of the night, I will elaborately explain the student retrieval process. I think this is all! Thank you all for your support this year thus far. I have argued that this is the hardest working choir in mid-Missouri and it is all because of your wonderful support and kindness.

Dear Honors Choir Families –

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by friends, family, and loved ones. It’s nearly December, which means we’re nearing the end of the first semester and we have some performances coming up!

A few reminders/details:
  • SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9 is the annual collaborative concert including the CPS 5th Grade Honors Choir and the Booneslick Chordbusters, a barbershop chorus in our community. For more information about the Chordbusters, please visit their website at http://www.chordbusters.com/ .

  • CALL TIME ON DECEMBER 9 IS AT 6:00PM at the Missouri Theatre downtown. I know there are other musical opportunities for students happening on the same day that some of you may have already registered for. Thank you for your commitment to make sure your student is at the Missouri Theatre by 6:00pm.

  • Students should wear their uniform as described in the Honors Choir Handbook for the performance, including the cardigan they were given in October. They will be provided a tie to wear during the performance.

  • THE PERFORMANCE BEGINS AT 7:00PM. In the past, the Chordbusters have joined the Honors Choir in singing the final number of the show.

  • If your singer will be absent, late, or need to leave early from a rehearsal, please notify me in advance.

October 16 Update

October 16, 2017
Good afternoon, Honors Choir Families!

I hope you had a great weekend, and that you get a chance to spend some time outside in the lovely fall weather!

A few reminders:

  • NO HONORS CHOIR REHEARSAL TOMORROW, OCTOBER 17. This is a half-day for Columbia Public Schools to allow for teacher collaboration.

  • We will resume regular rehearsal next week, Tuesday, October 24 from 4:00pm to 5:15pm.

  • FUNDRAISER ITEMS WILL BE DELIVERED NEXT TUESDAY, OCTOBER 24. It is essential that items be picked up promptly, as much of what was purchased from the fundraiser must be refrigerated. Fundraiser pick-up will operate out of the WMS band room, directly next to the choir room.

  • The t-shirt order has been placed. It will most likely take 3-4 weeks to be delivered. I will keep you posted.

  • Students participating in Honors Choir must also participate in their home school choir, no exceptions. The purpose of the Honors Choir is to provide students performing opportunities in addition to their home school experience. It is also our expectation that leadership skills learned during Honors Choir rehearsals will transfer directly out to our elementary school choirs all over town and strengthen the future of music in Columbia Public Schools. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this policy.

  • Please let me know in advance if your student will be absent, late, or need to leave early from Honors Choir rehearsal.

  • Thank you for continuing to arrange transportation for your student to and from Honors Choir rehearsal, and for picking students up promptly after rehearsal ends at 5:15pm. The team of directors appreciates your adherence to this policy.

  • Q: Should I pack a snack for my student?
  • A: Yes, students should come with a snack from home to eat before the performance. We will not have an opportunity to eat until after the performance, or around 1:20pm. All students in CPS are accustomed to eating before then, so we ask they bring a snack. If students do not bring a snack, one will be made available to them.

  • Q: Does my student have to attend the pool party following the performance?
  • A: No. If you would like to pick up your student after the performance, you may. However, due to liability concerns, we cannot release a student to any adult other than their legal guardians.

  • Q: If my student is not going to the pool party, how will I know where they are after the performance?
  • A: I will have my cell phone charged and on all day if you have any questions or concerns. You can call or text, identify yourself, and I will share our current location so we can arrange a pick-up location for your child. My phone number is (573)239-6408.

Thank you for your help in putting this trip together so early in the year! I truly appreciate all of your feedback, and I look forward to working with all of you this year. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns that were not addressed above, please let me know via email, phone, or in person.

October 3 Update

October 3, 2017
Good evening, Honors Choir Families!

I hope you are all doing well, and that everyone is staying healthy during the beginning of flu season. Please remind your HC singer to practice good vocal habits, including getting plenty of rest and drinking lots of water.

A few general announcements for the good of the entire group:

  • Students should have come home from today’s rehearsal with a burgundy cardigan. This is for them to keep at home and bring to Honors Choir performances only.

  • We have a shortage of cardigans in the mid-size range. Consequently, many students may have made it home with a cardigan that is too large or has small flaws in it. Please check your child’s cardigan before Saturday and let me know if either of these is the case.

  • We are in the process of compiling an order to the uniform company. All students need uniforms that fit them. I will keep you posted with the latest on updating our uniform stock.

  • I will send out a bulleted email to those families whose students will be traveling with us to Tan-Tar-A this weekend, as well as making a more detailed post on our blog (http://cps5honorschoir.blogspot.com/ ) later this evening.

  • Today was the deadline for t-shirt orders. We will order extra t-shirts that will be available for purchase with a t-shirt order form, attached here. In the case of late orders, we cannot guarantee size request, and will try to find the closest size to the one requested for your student.

  • Next Tuesday’s rehearsal (October 10) will end at 5:15pm, with pick-up no later than 5:30pm. Thank you for making this adjustment to your family’s schedule. We will continue the normal schedule (4:00-5:15pm) for the remaining rehearsals this semester.

  • If your student will be absent, late, or need to be picked up before the end of rehearsal, please give me advance notice of your needs.

  • If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about anything Honors Choir-related, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email (LiPierce@cpsk12.org), phone: (573)214-3670, ext. 79740, or in person before or after our Tuesday rehearsals.

We look forward to seeing most of you Saturday morning at WMS at 9:30am to see us off on the road to Tan-Tar-A. We will see everyone next Tuesday at rehearsal!
