November 12 Update

Hello, Honors Choir Families!

I hope all is well with you, and that you’re staying warm and well!

A few reminders:
·         On Saturday, November 23, CPS 5th Grade Honors Choir members are invited to a simulcast from New York City’s Metropolitan Opera Company of Philip Glass’ opera Akhnaten at Forum 8 Movie Theater (1209 Forum Katy Parkway). This event is limited to the first 50 students signed up and will last from 11:30am-4:00pm. Refreshments will not be provided; however, students may bring money for movie concessions. To sign up your singer please follow this link: https://forms.gle/HdrGJNwNUPfgbSX7A
·         On the morning of Friday, December 6, the 5th Grade Honors Choir will record “Sisi Ni Moya” and “The Fox” at Rock Bridge High School to be included in the local access channel holiday broadcast. We are very excited to bring this level of coverage and widespread attention to the talented singers of our ensemble. 5th Grade Honors Choir students should be dropped off at RBHS Auditorium no earlier than 7:45am on Friday, December 6. Students should arrive in uniform (black from hip to toe, white collared shirt, burgundy cardigan) and bring a change of clothes for their school day. The auditorium will be kept empty for an optimum recording environment, so unfortunately parents may not stay for taping; however, families will be sent links to recordings. All 5th Grade Honors Choir students’ tardies will be excused with their home schools, and students will be bussed to their home schools following the recording. Thank you for your support of this new opportunity for the Honors Choir!
·         Honors Choir T-shirts will be available for purchase in November. I will send order forms home with singers following today’s rehearsal.
·         We have begun to fit students for burgundy cardigans as part of their performance uniform. We will send cardigans home with singers after all have been fitted. Cardigans will be worn for performances only in December and in April. This includes the December 6 recording. Please contact me if purchasing a shirt and pants or a skirt is a problem for you. We will provide you with a donated uniform or look for a source of alternative funding.
·         For weekly rehearsals, students should arrive to West Middle School no earlier than 3:45pm. The team of directors come from different directions all over town and cannot guarantee your child will be supervised until 3:45 each week. Singers should be picked up from WMS no later than 5:20pm following weekly rehearsals. Thank you for respecting the evening commitments of the team of directors.
·         If your student will be absent from any Honors Choir rehearsal or event, please email me as soon as possible.
·         All communications sent to the distribution list are also available on our blog: http://cps5honorschoir.blogspot.com/
·         If you have any questions or concerns, please email me directly.

Have a great evening!
