January 8 Update

Hello, Honors Choir Families!

Happy New Year! I hope you were able to spend quality time with your loved ones over the break, and that your singer is ready for a new semester in Honors Choir!

  • The Honors Choir rehearsal schedule is available on the right side of your screen from the blog home page. Please refer to this document before contacting me to ask whether or not there will be rehearsal.
  • We will resume regularly-scheduled rehearsals tomorrow, Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in the West Middle School choir room.
  • Rehearsals begin at 4:00pm and end at 5:15pm. Please do not enter the choir room before 3:45, as there are middle school rehearsals in session.
  • Singers should be picked up from rehearsal no later than 5:25pm. Thank you for respecting the evening commitments of the Honors Choir staff.
  • There is another opera-tunity for Honors Choir singers to view Carmen through the Metropolitan Opera’s educational outreach program! The Honors Choir staff will take the first 50 Honors Choir singers who sign up. This will happen on Saturday, February 2, 2019. As with our previous opera trip, students will meet to learn about opera and the music from Carmen before traveling to Forum 8 Theater to watch the opera. Please pack a sack lunch for your child, as school cafeterias will be closed on the weekend. The opera begins at 11:55am at Forum 8 Theater and will last for approximately 3 hours, 45 minutes with intermissions in between each act.
  • Follow this Google Forms link to sign up your singer to view “Carmen” on February 2: https://goo.gl/forms/X0syqq01yiW4pubA2
  • T-Shirt Update: The Honors Choir t-shirts were ordered before Winter Break. I am waiting to hear back about delivery specifics. When the shirts arrive, I will distribute them to singers at rehearsal. It’s not too late to purchase Honors Choir T-shirts! I have ordered extras in each size available on a first-come, first-served basis. T-shirts are $10 each. Checks must be made payable to Columbia Public Schools. Please write Honors Choir in the memo line.
  • If your student will be absent from any Honors Choir rehearsal or event, please email me as soon as possible.
  • All communications sent to the distribution list are also available on our blog: http://cps5honorschoir.blogspot.com/

Have a great week!

November 19 Update

November 19, 2018

Good afternoon, Honors Choir Families!

I hope all is well with you as we head into the Thanksgiving holiday! I am grateful to help coordinate events for the CPS 5th Grade Honors Choir and communicate with all of you!

A few reminders:

* We will have rehearsal tomorrow, November 20th from 4:00-5:15pm. I know many of you will travel to see loved ones for Thanksgiving, and we appreciate you making Honors Choir a priority as you plan your family's schedule.

* Our first performance this year is on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Hickman High School. Call time for singers is 6:15 in the HHS Choir Room, and the performance will begin at 7:00. This is a collaborative concert with middle- and high school choirs. Following the Honors Choir segment of the program, there will be a collaborative piece sung with middle and high school groups. Please plan for your singer to stay for the duration of the concert and sing the last number.

* Please review the handbook for uniform expectations: "The uniform for concerts is as follow unless otherwise noted: Bottoms: Black skirts with black tights or black pants with black socks
Shoes: Black dress shoes Tops: All students will need a white button collared shirt.  Students will be provided a burgundy cardigan with a gold neck tie.  The white shirt does not need to have a certain arm length; it simply needs to have a collar that can hold a necktie with a button.  This would include button down dress shirts or polo shirts. The cardigans and necktie are property of Columbia Public Schools. Please contact Lindsey Tevebaugh (LTevebaugh@cpsk12.org) if purchasing a shirt and pants or a skirt is a problem for you.  We will provide you with a donated uniform or look for a source of alternative funding.  I do not want this to prevent any child who has qualified from participating.

Honors Choir T-shirts will be available for purchase in November. I will send order forms home with singers who request them at tomorrow's rehearsal.

* Students who were not fitted for cardigans last week will be fitted at tomorrow's rehearsal. We will send cardigans home with singers at the December 4th rehearsal. Cardigans will be worn for performances in December and in April.

* Auditions for a short solo at the end of With My Own Two Hands will be held at our December 4th rehearsal. If your child is interested in auditioning, please notify Lindsey Tevebaugh.

For weekly rehearsals, students should arrive to West Middle School no earlier than 3:45pm. The team of directors come from different directions all over town and cannot guarantee your child will be supervised until 3:45 each week. Singers should be picked up from WMS no later than 5:20pm following weekly rehearsals. Thank you for respecting the evening commitments of the team of directors.

If your student will be absent from any Honors Choir rehearsal or event, please email me as soon as possible.

* All communications sent to the distribution list are also available on our blog: http://cps5honorschoir.blogspot.com/

Have a wonderful, safe Thanksgiving break!
